The Point of Resistance

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We all know what it is; we've been there many times before, often several times in the same day.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The point of resistance is that fleeting moment where the task at hand will either get done or it won't.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's that point where the task has already been started, but is not quite finished.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's the point where if overcome, the task will get done.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While we can often seen the point of resistance on the horizon, it's often quite a lot closer than it appears.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We all have a point of resistance in our lives right now.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Multiple points of resistance exist in some of our lives, that we meet at different times in our day.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Points of resistance are different for everybody; some are big and harder to overcome than others.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some need just hard, physical work to get through.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Others can be overcome through a simple mindset shift, or thinking outside the box.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I don't know what it will take for you to overcome your points of resistance.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀
But I can say enjoying that moment, taking step forward into it, and really relishing being there, celebrating you've not only come this far, but are able to recognize the obstacle, all of these help.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Get focused.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Bring your awareness into the moment,⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Feel the resistance that's building up.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Laugh in the face of the resistance because you know you've been here so many times before, and every single time, it's just a little bit different than the last.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Then resolve to conquer it.

Tame it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Overwhelm it, defeat it, conquer it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Then look up, because the next one is coming.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The question is, will you overcome the point of resistance, or will you let it overcome you?

A Little Altitude, A Lot of Perspective

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Sometimes you need a little altitude to get some perspective.

Went for a nice trail run (more like trail walk with over 1800 feet of vertical) off of Highway 1 on Friday which did so much for my mind, my body, and my spirit.

We can't let isolation, or the current situation bring us down.

After looking at some of the photos I got, this one really spoke to me, and how you can faintly make out the trail ahead, and tipping the hat to the mountains to come.

There will still be many trials and tribulations (and hopefully trails) ahead, but I'm especially hopeful on a day like today that the path will continue to be carved out of the side of mountains that we all climb together.

Happy Easter, for He is risen!

Sandy Beaches and Ocean Breezes

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Day dreaming right now about sandy beaches and ocean breezes.

While adventures outside of the house have to be curtailed right now, our sense of adventure does not have to change.

Maybe the paths we are on right now look a little different than what we expected, but we are still on our paths and that is adventure in its purest form.

Maybe our adventures are finding novelty in our current situation.

Its not easy, but what great adventures are ever easy?

I will still long for the day to come where I get to explore this great world once more, but until then I will relentlessly find ways to continue on my path.

I can't give you what you think your adventures should look like right now, all I can say is there still is a path in front of you, and the choice to continue along it is up to you.

Safe adventures this week and every week.

Small Change/Big Impact

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Yesterday afternoon I wasn’t able to focus.

I couldn’t put the creator hat on and start grinding towards my finished product I have In my mind for a couple projects.

So instead of sitting there and not keep falling into a cycle of not getting things done, I made a change.

I got outside, and went watched the sunset.

It gave me everything I needed yesterday afternoon to revitalize me.

When you’re not getting the results you want, just make a small commitment to change something, anything.

That little change could be a cup of coffee or a quick walk.

The speed of your results are directly related to the speed of your ability to make changes and innovate yourself as much as you’re innovating your product.

What small change do you need to make right now to get the results you need tomorrow?

Now it’s time to get back to work, because the sun may have set again here, but today isn’t over.

How I Ran a Sub-40 Min 5 Mile

Running has always not been my strongest physical attribute. I would run endlessly right when I first joined the army, and do miles on miles.

40 Minutes has always been the gold standard to me as far as a 5 mile run time that I felt like once I achieved it, would boost my confidence make me feel like a true runner.

While going through my training pipeline for my job, We would do 5 mile time trials or "Gates" as we called it periodically once a month.

These gates would stress me out.

I could feel the anxiety building up in me.

I would think about how if I failed I would be dropped from the program, or if I didn't run fast enough I wouldn't be considered good enough.

So I made a decision to get help.

I got a coach.

We initially sat down and came up with a game plan.

He showed how I needed to breakdown the 5 miles into little half mile increments, little chunks that I could chew on and crush before hitting the next half mile.

We developed a self check system where every time I would cross a half mile check point.

I would run through my checks and assess things like my pace, how much fatigue I felt, how many miles left, and make a decision to either run faster or slower based of our overall strategy.

This process of checking in enabled me to go run a 39:44 five mile on test day that to this day I am super proud of, not because of the fact it was a sub 40 minute 5 mile run, but because I did the physical and mental prep work to crush that goal.

No matter what your goal is, you need three things to be successful:

  1. Game Plan

  2. Someone to hold you accountable guide you along the way

  3. Timeline

Sometimes these three things interfere with each other, and aren't in balance.

So you need to do an honest assessment and ask yourself is all three of those things nested and supporting you in achieving your goal.

Sure you could try and hit your goal with out a plan, by just "working hard"every day, but how will you know what you're doing is getting you closer to your goal?

And you might say "I don't need a support from someone else".

But having someone who can be honest with you about your progress when you may have hard time being honest with yourself helps you stay focused.

And while not setting a timeline may be tempting so you don't feel pressured, its only going to delay you from taking action.

Let me know in the comments what else you think is necessary this year to achieve your goal! ⚔️♠️

Here's to Adventure in 2020

Favorite photo of the new year, and officially my new iPhone background.

Last year, I tried to constantly one up my morning views, so that each place was a completely different view than the last.

This year, I'm really looking forward to seeing the local beauty you can find in your own neighborhood.

You don't have to go far to find the views that are make you take a step back and just say "Whoa".

But sometimes you do have to work at it, and even go back to the same place over and over again until you see a place in a way that connects with you.

This photo represents the awesome adventures that are to be had this year, not too far from my new home!

Move to Get To a Place That Will Move You

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Last night's sunset on the beach was amazing.

And I didn't get to see it!

Looking at this photo this morning (and doing some light* editing) allowed me to appreciate how far I've come. . I think early last year, I had a little bit of a mantra "Do things that excite you".

If I could go back in time and give myself an updated mantra last year it would be "Don't just do things that excite you; do things that move you."

Sometimes you have to move to get a place that will move you.

All I could think about yesterday, literally all day, was hitting the beach in my new locale.

I got home late yesterday, and I felt discouraged because the sun had literally just set as I got home.

But I didn't want to lose an opportunity, so I threw on my running shoes and got out to the beach.

Would this photo have been better if I had gotten to the beach right before sunset?

Maybe.

But the point is I didn't, and enjoyed these views just as much if not more because I chose to go for that run.

Move to places that move you, and do it imperfectly, because it's those imperfections that make life way more interesting.

Travel and Measuring Up

therealkrislevy_2020-01-08_20-01-57_81041307_1354797371365557_6453452066099148912_n.jpg

If there's anything I've learned about travel, never fall into the trap of legalism. It's never about how many stamps you have on your passport, or what you think you have to do based on what your friends told you they did, what matters is how you travel, and the process you go through during your travels.

Travel speaks to all of us in different ways.

It shows us things about ourselves that we've buried deep, and other things that we never knew were there.

So If we keep focusing on our so called "metrics" of how much we travel, instead of the process of how we lived during our travels, then we become victims to our own devices.

Next time you travel, try focusing on how you spend your time with yourself, I mean really dig deep there and see what's inside.

Then have faith, because the rest will work itself out.

Looking Forward to Monday...?

therealkrislevy_2020-01-06_14-00-40_81911332_1236890639830846_6840346828578435642_n.jpg

Monday Mornings aren't about looking back at what happened last week.

It's about what you have to look forward to this week.

There's something beautiful in the grind, knowing that we are building something brick by brick, and that each week gets us to a new level.

But getting to the next level doesn't take massive plans, endless hours of grinding, or new gear.

It takes one step, or one decision.

It's that moment before everything begins for the week, that moment where we choose to get better.

It's that moment right after when everything that's going to happen this week and everything that you think you have to do floods your mind and starts pulling away from your focus, you wipe the slate clean and choose that one thing, that one priority, that one step that is going to get you closer to your next level.

Taking a moment to feel the overwhelm is fine, it keeps you grounded, and makes you feel like a human, and reminds you that you have real responsibilities to your people and your self.

But when let it all go and burn that one next step in your mind, let yourself rise to the next level for the week, that's when you become superhuman.

People take notice when you have a singular mind, and that one next objective clearing in view.

Some will say you’re distant, cold even.

Others will say they feel inspired.

But other's views don't matter to you.

Because they aren't apart of the one thing, the one step, the one choice that only matters right now.

Clear your mind, make the decision, find the next step on your path, and get to the next level this week.

It Takes Work (but You Got This!)

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

No matter where you’re at, no matter what dark hole you find yourself at the bottom of, no matter what corner of the planet or galaxy you find you yourself in, you can get back, you can get home, you can pull yourself out.

It takes work. It takes doing a shit ton of things that don’t make sense at the time. Knowing that they’ll pay off down the road. It takes looking into yourself and seeing what’s there, doing an assessment and working with what you got.⠀

I can’t promise you you’ll end up where you think you’re suppose to be, but if you do the work, and let him work, you’ll end up where you’re meant to be. Because it’s something greater than your journey, or your path. It’s your destiny. And your time is now, because you’re alive right now, so go out and seize it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Starting 2020 Right: Gratitude and Plans for the Year!

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Starting the year off right with nothing but pure gratitude.

Last year was both my best and most challenging year yet, but it's funny how God works to give you just a little bit more than you can handle, so your faith grows just a little bit stronger.

I am so grateful for these moments last year that made me who I am this year and put me on the course I am supposed to be on.

When I look back at these moments, while they were my most liked, I also like to think of them as decisive points in my life, where I had breakthroughs in discovering a little bit more about who I and what I am supposed to be doing.

I discovered my passion for creating, and learned how to use my skills to create from my passions and find fulfillment and in sharing those creations with others.

I learned the value of enjoying the moment, taking a step back, and savoring the calm before the chaos.

I noticed how a just a view has a way of cutting straight to me, and can change me for the better.

I amplified my affinity for learning about wine.

I unlocked my addiction for travel.

I learned to see mountains everywhere, and worked on my strategies for conquering them.

Lastly, I'm most grateful for meeting an amazing human being who works daily to meet me half way and supports me in all my endeavors.

Recently, someone asked me to sum up what 2020 will be for me in one word.

FOCUS.

I'm looking forward to taking more action on things that I care about and my priorities, like my career, my love of creating, and of course WINE!

I have some big things lined up for this year, and can't wait to share them with all of you, so here's to #wheretonext in 2020.

Lessons From 2019

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

This Year, if there is anything I’ve learned about myself, it would be that the key to unlocking your best life is directly proportional how much you create.

This year has been full of Alpine Highs and Oceanic Lows, but what got me through it was keeping my faith, and unlocking my own personal kind of inspiration.

Traveling extensively absolutely unlocks your mind, releases your creativity and ingenuity, and shows you your world of possibilities.

But unlocking what you're capable of creating doesn't require you to travel far, or even travel at all. . It takes thinking abundantly, seeing the world as not a zero sum gain.

It requires persistence to keep creating when you don't feel like it, and self awareness to recognize when you aren't at your best and to keep pushing, keep grinding, until you produce your best work. . And it takes flair.

For some people they do the minimum amount of flair, because they have already limited their mind and what is possible.

But the ones that don't limit themselves, that don't limit their minds, they put on all their flair everyday and aren't afraid to showcase who they really are.

That's ultimately what we find valuable, or even attractive, though we may not want to admit it consciously. . It's the flaws, the too much secret sauce, the flair that we are attracted to.

It's what makes us human, and what connects us with other humans.

I don't have a secret book with all the answers to being at your best, or life hacks to get the results you want. . All I can give you is a process, an adventure, that you must go through to seek out where you're supposed to be, what you're supposed to do.

Just start.

Start creating, start doing, start running, start writing.

Then share.

Share it face to face with friends, family, co-workers, on the socials.

Be honest with people about where you're at right now, what you're creating. . Then keep going, keep creating, keep sharing, and let the process work.

New Mountains to Conquer

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Finding new mountains to conquer remains a critical component to the eternal quest of getting better.

Success and achievement don't equate to fulfilment.

Fulfilment comes from a place of being constantly challenged, adapting to our current situations we find ourselves in and then pushing our limits a little bit further so we can climb a little taller mountain next time.

The journey of finding the next mountain and doing what we have to do to be able to climb that mountain is where fulfilment comes from.

Those mountains can be in different aspects or domains in our lives, but continually seeking out those mountains is what keeps us on our path that's been laid out for us.

We don't have to reach the top of those mountains, as sometime we never will.

But what is important is that we keep climbing, and keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Heading into this week with a mindset of gratitude for the mountains I've been fortunate to climb in my own life both with strength from God and alongside others.

Those mountains have made me who I am today.

Now it's time to find the next one.

Hitting the road again, eagerly in anticipation to see what awaits.

Lessons From the Road

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Continually moving forward and holding true to your priorities requires immense adaptability and being flexible.

But it also requires foresight to recognize a little left of bang when things aren’t going to go your way so you can implement corrective action a little bit before you’re going to derail.

This helps you minimize the downside, the negative effects of not getting done the things you need to get done, the things that you value and you prioritize.

You also have to be creative and look at things from a different perspective.

This helps you see the value in doing something a way you’re normally not used to.

Don’t focus on the things you can’t control: Other people Your environment you’re in right now What resources you have access to

Instead focus on what you can control: The places you choose to go to next How you choose to allocate your time How you use the resources you have

In the long run, moving forward in this way makes your more decisive and allows you to break down actions and elements into there most basic form and see them for that they are and what they give you.

You start to see while certain things or activities aren’t a 100% match to what you’re looking for, you can substitute an activity, or resource for something that gets you an 80% solution, and keeps you moving forward, toward the goal, towards the endstate.

That focus, on what matters, begins to emerge slowly over time, as you go a little bit further, and push your limits, your capabilities and your resources a little bit more everyday.

Find the Magic in Every Day

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

We can't always be in the places we want to with the people we want to, but we can focus on our surroundings and seek the beauty we find near us.

Finding the magic in our daily lives keeps things fresh when everything goes stagnant, and prevents us from getting complacent.

Seeing what truly is around us gives us a greater sense of gratitude, that makes us even more grateful for those few moments we get to spend with those who make our worlds whole.

Grateful this week for the awesome memories I've shared with some amazing people in the past month, but also really enjoying the daily process of moving forward, and seeing what great views and allure lie around the next corner.

Being home always fills me up with the things I need, but gets me hungry for what's coming next.

Explore more today and find the enchantment that is always around you.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Fortune Favors the Prepared Mind

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

“Fortune favors the prepared mind.” - Louis Pasteur || Benton, LA, USA ||

Having been on the road for almost a week now, I’ve started to notice things in myself. .

Being in a constant state of motion physically puts you into a constant state of movement mentally.

But if you want to capitalize on that movement, on those new states you find, you have to be ready.

The best way to be prepared for what a new day or places holds for you is having routine that opens up your mind and body for the day, so you can find a state where you’re ready to receive what the day holds.

Hitting certain areas or touch points of different parts of yourself helps focus you and helps you learn more about yourself and the world around you.

It doesn’t happen overnight, it takes work, a lot of trial and error, and a lot of failing.

Sometimes some habits or routines stick immediately and others seem impossible to start.

But the key is to keep moving.

So find what works for you, and keep moving towards what your travels and your day holds for you.
